“Sleep is the most moronic fraternity in the world, with the heaviest dues and the crudest rituals.”
Vladimir Nabokov, arguing that insomnia had aided his creativity (and quoted by Natface). Discussions concerning the relationship between mental dysfunction and creativity abound today, but I’ll simply note my agreement with Nabokov: when I reflect on how much of my life I lose to detestably purposeless and un-recollected sleep, the penultimate nullity of consciousness, it brings me near to enraged despair.
